Germany - A New Direction for Indian Researchers

• Before applying for a PhD Programme, please find out about the academic system and procedures in Germany, as it could be quite different from that in the US or UK. It differs considerably from the Indian system too. For instance, Germany does not have a system of graduate schools, centers and colleges. In fact, there is no binding curriculum that guides a student throughout the programme, which is both good and bad at the same time. It is bad because, the courses lack structure which could be quite unnerving for an Indian student used to the very rigid and mechanical structure of higher education in India, specially if it is his/her first time abroad.
